Dr. Elena Vikis is a fellowship-trained colorectal surgeon specializing in advanced minimally invasive techniques, including transanal total mesorectal excision (TaTME), TAMIS, and single-incision laparoscopic surgery. She completed her colorectal surgery fellowship at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles and additional training in anorectal physiology in Denmark.
Practicing at Royal Columbian and Eagle Ridge Hospitals in British Columbia, Dr. Vikis manages a high volume of complex colorectal cancer and benign disease, with particular expertise in reoperative pelvic surgery and innovative minimally invasive approaches. She is also the founding director of the new UBC-affiliated “Colorectal, Minimally Invasive & Endoscopic Fellowship,” launching in 2025.
Beyond her clinical work, Dr. Vikis is dedicated to surgical education and holds a Master’s degree in Medical Education. She is actively involved in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows, and serves as a clinical instructor at the University of British Columbia.
Her research focuses on operative outcomes, surgical training, and minimally invasive techniques. She is an invited speaker at national and international conferences, where she shares expertise on rectal cancer management, minimally invasive innovation, and surgical education.
At the Digestive Health Conference, Dr. Vikis will present a surgeon’s perspective on the management of colorectal polyps, highlighting both technical approaches and the clinical decision-making that guides advanced polypectomy and surgical resection.
