Dr. Hookey completed medical school training at Memorial University of Newfoundland, followed by Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology training at Queen's University. He then spent two years between Free University of Brussels in Belgium and the Paoli Calmettes Centre in Marseille, France completing a clinical research fellowship in advanced therapeutic endoscopy and clinical trials (CIHR-CAG-Solvay fellowship). Upon return to Kingston and Queen's University in 2005 he established a clinical research program focussing on endoscopy quality, outcomes, and education. He was the Program Director for the GI training program for 7 years, has served as Canadian Association of Gastroenterology (CAG) Endoscopy lead and Vice President, Clinical Affairs, is a Fellow of CAG, and is now CAG president. He has served as Chair of the Division of Gastroenterology since 2016, and as Medical Director of the Endoscopy units at Kingston Health Sciences Centres for over 10 years.
